It is characterized by its fusiform and ideally aerodynamic shape, as well as having the most advanced thermoregulation system of all bony fish. As all tuna, the bluefin is an excellent hunter, feeding mainly on small fish and squid. Globally, the bluefin is at risk of extinction and is currently one of the most threatened fish species.
