The Royal Naval rum was measured in half-gill tots and variously diluted, often into a two-gill (half-pint) measure. The measures are made in the time-honoured way - from skilfully hand-beaten brass, copper-plated, polished, then lined with silver to neutralise taste. The bases are stamped with the prestigious HMS logo.

For the convivence of the Pusser (Purser) it was measured out i half gills, and the highlight of the crews day was the dispensing of the rations each morning and afternoon.
